Strings in the Spotlight

Five OPRL musicians invite you to discover major works written for string ensemble. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quintet No. 6 is among his final chamber works. Written around the same time as The Magic Flute, it captivates with its simple, luminous, and joyful melodies. This radiant atmosphere is also found in Johannes Brahms’s String Quintet No. 2, a mature work in which the composer confidently asserts his musical voice. Finally, American composer Carlos Simon, artist-in-residence at the OPRL, reflects on the Covid period, when daily life seemed to go in circles—like an “endless loop”—during the 2020 lockdown.
