The piano at the heart of the strings
Four members of the OPRL join Portuguese pianist Joana David to explore the rich universe of the piano and string quintet. The program opens with Fauré’s Quintet No. 1, a work composed at a pivotal moment in his life, as deafness led him toward a more inward and deeply poetic sound world. Next comes Taneyev’s Quintet, a vast, lyrical and energetic fresco, with dense and demanding writing, often (admiringly) compared to Brahms’s Quintet, a masterpiece of balance and expressive power that will conclude the concert.
