Concertmaster: a leader within the orchestra?
Les Amis de l’Orchestre invite you to meet two of the OPRL’s familiar faces, Alberto Menchen and George Tudorache, who are never seen together on stage, yet hold the same position: concertmaster. The “first violin” among first violins, the concertmaster walks onto the stage just before the conductor, gives the orchestra its tuning note, performs solo passages, and takes on less visible yet absolutely essential responsibilities in the running of an orchestra. What qualities are essential for the job? What stories do they have to share about this very particular position? Guy Lemaire lifts the veil in an informal conversation and Q&A.
