Benjamin Grosvenor
“Pianism of the highest order.” BOSTON CLASSICAL REVIEW
The outstanding pianist Benjamin Grosvenor returns to Liège for a recital covering more than two centuries of musical literature. The program features Sofia Gubaidulina’s rich and virtuosic Chaconne; a “Parisian” sonata by Mozart, already tinged with pre-Romantic character; Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata, famous for its opening movement shaped like a funeral march; Scriabin’s Sonata No. 2, inspired by seascapes and a storm in Italy; Liszt’s three Petrarch Sonnets, marked by delicate lyricism; and finally Chopin’s Sonata No. 2, whose deeply moving Funeral March forms the heart of the work.
