Tableaux pittoresques

Composed in 1917 in England, the Tableaux pittoresques by the Liège-born composer Joseph Jongen radiate optimism and colour: pastoral evocations, dances, mountainous landscapes and popular festivities succeed one another in delightfully contrasting movements. The work is dedicated to Queen Elisabeth and is included in the programme celebrating the 150th anniversary of the sovereign. Faithful to her spirit of patronage and her support for young talent, the concert will bring together artists and professors from the Chapelle Musicale, in virtuosic works of the repertoire such as the sublime Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius, a pinnacle of lyricism and intensity.
