Fauré’s Suite from Pelléas et Mélisande (1898), both delicate and sensual, plunges us into Maeterlinck’s mysterious world, where love is inextricably intertwined with tragic fate. Based on Shakespeare’s literary masterpiece, Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet evokes the all-consuming passion, combining lyricism and exacerbated violence to illustrate the intensity of this tragic drama and drawing the listener into the destiny of the two star-crossed lovers of Verona. The Three Songs by Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov (2002), entrusted to the rich and powerful voice of soprano Chen Reiss, are charming little gems. Originally written for Dawn Upshaw, they are inspired by poems by Sally Potter, Rosalía de Castro and Emily Dickinson, offering an intimate and deeply human perspective on the emotions of love.
