Mozart and his Legacy

For its debut in Liège, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta unfolds its chamber colours around Mozart and his musical legacy. Written in 1779, his Sinfonia Concertante gives the viola, for the first time, a true solo role, placed on equal footing with the violin. It will feature the young violinist Daniel Lozakovich, one of today’s leading talents at Deutsche Grammophon. As for Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous Serenade for Strings, it was born as an homage to Mozart, whom the Russian composer regarded as the embodiment of musical purity and balance. Finally, 5 minutes in the life of W.A.M. offers an unusual and humorous fantasy based on various recycled Mozart motifs.
