Mozart, Concerto No. 20

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 opens with immediate drama: a minor key, incisive accents, and relentless tension give the work an almost theatrical intensity. Former laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Alexander Melnikov brings out its full power and poignant lyricism. As for Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7 (1924), composed at the end of his life, it unfolds in a single continuous movement, where a solitary melody is transformed and developed with an intensity that is both mysterious and profoundly human. It is up to Karel Deseure to sculpt its hypnotic landscapes with luminous precision.
