L’Otarie joyeuse invites you on a journey into the heart of the popular and Romani traditions of Romania and the Balkans, with the last “Lăutari” (minstrels) musicians from Brussels, gathered around the violinist Nicolas Hauzeur. At the heart of this irresistible music, which has gained international fame through the films of Emir Kusturica and the ensemble Taraf de Haïdouks, is this unique instrument of Hungarian craftsmanship and probably Persian origin, the cymbalum, still present today in many cultures of Eastern Europe.
