OPRL+JAZZ : COLTRANE 100 : LEGACY
From Blue Train to A Love Supreme, the music of John Coltrane (1926–1967) reshaped the history of jazz and, in Liège, is brought into dialogue with a large symphony orchestra. Floating solo saxophone with Joe Lovano, rhythmic section, and a full orchestra in fusion: under the supervision of Carlos Simon, composer-in-residence at the OPRL this season, the arrangements reinvent these masterpieces and transform them into true sonic journeys. This is an immersion into Coltrane’s most influential works from the 1950s to the late 1960s, complemented by a projection of exclusive photographs. A unique opportunity for the OPRL to invite jazz enthusiasts to celebrate the centenary of this major artist, whose solo career in the 1960s laid the foundations of modern jazz.
