OPRL + film concert: Chaplin, Modern Times

In 2027, sound cinema celebrates its 100th anniversary! Yet when Charlie Chaplin directed his first talking picture in 1936, Modern Times remained without dialogue. He included only sound effects and a few songs, such as the famous Smile. Convinced that Charlot would lose his universality if his voice were heard, Chaplin gave him here his final screen appearance. A subversive masterpiece, critical of the absurdity of industrialisation, with music composed by Chaplin himself (who was also an excellent violinist). Fifty years after his death, the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège pays tribute to him with this film concert, in which his music is performed live in perfect synchronisation with the screening.
