OPRL+ Soundtrack: The Strange Concert of Mr. Elfman
But of course you know Danny Elfman! This self-taught composer has written for nearly all of Tim Burton’s films, from Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in 1985 to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice—and then some—in 2024. The two were made for each other: dark and strange, yet full of fantasy and melancholy, qualities that run through Elfman’s music. Menacing brass, piercing woodwinds, and at the same time wild percussion, and strings that are sometimes mischievous, sometimes nostalgic… Whether in Batman, Beetlejuice—and then again—Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Big Fish, we discover an orchestra that is both gothic and fairytale-like. That is the strange universe of Mr. Elfman.
