Lecture-concert: When the Meuse Enchants the World
The musicians of the OPRL and Peter Petrov, joined by Philippe and Laurence Koch, invite you on a journey to the heart of the musical history of the Cité ardente. In the spotlight are iconic composers such as Grétry, Franck, and Ysaÿe, who spread the name of Liège far beyond its borders—sometimes even exerting a lasting influence on the musical life of other countries—as well as several lesser-known figures like Delage, Antoine, and Rogister, who nonetheless contributed significantly to the city’s musical excellence, particularly in the field of chamber music. A heritage that is still very much alive today and was officially recognized on October 31, when UNESCO designated Liège as a “Creative City of Music.” Through his engaging insights, musicologist Jean-Marc Onkelinx will place into perspective the influence and major role of these great figures—true roots of Liège’s musical identity.
