Brahms 2

Pastoral, lively and bright, Brahms's Second Symphony (1877) expresses the sunny side of German Romanticism, brought to life here by Valentina Peleggi, the first Italian to be admitted to the conducting programme at the Royal Academy of Music (London). Masquerade, a firework display of sound by the British composer Anna Clyne (born 1980), recaptures the pastoral atmosphere of 18th century London concerts. Finally, the Argentine dance rhythms of Ginastera, Piazzolla's master, run through his Concerto for Harp, a work of endless invention, entrusted to the solo harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Belgian Anneleen Lenaerts.
